Hi, I’m Sarah Jenkins, the editor of Frugal Journal. Thanks for stopping by.
Frugal Journal is a practical budgeting journal. It’s here for anyone who wants to spend a little less, save a little more, and still enjoy the month. I don’t think saving money should mean giving up everything you like. Most of the time it comes down to small, steady choices that you can actually keep up.
Why this site exists
A lot of money advice starts with extra cash you may not have. I wanted a place that starts with the money you do have. Pay arrives. Bills come first. What’s left has to stretch across groceries, gifts, and maybe a night out. That’s the budget I write for.
So the guides here are short, plain, and built around steps you can use the same day. No jargon. No pressure. If a method doesn’t fit your life, skip it and pick another one.
What you’ll find here
Every guide fits one of five topics. Each topic has its own page with the full list of articles.
- No Spend and Low Buy: plans for a no spend week, month, or year. You get simple rules, an essentials list, and a plan for the day you slip.
- Savings and Sinking Funds: small, steady ways to save. Think bi weekly savings plans, cash envelopes, and sinking funds for bills and holidays.
- Date Nights: cheap and free date ideas for couples, at home and out in your town.
- Gifts and Holidays: handmade and low cost gift ideas, plus holiday plans that keep your budget intact.
- Budgeting and Groceries: beginner budgets, bi weekly pay plans, pantry challenges, and cheap meals from what you already own.
New here? Start with the Start Here page. It points you to the right topic in about a minute.
How each guide is made
I choose topics based on what people are looking for. Before a number goes into a guide, I check it against an official source, such as a government or bank website. I keep the words plain and the paragraphs short, and I write the steps so you can follow them without a spreadsheet.
I also use AI tools to help with research and first drafts. A person reviews, fact checks, and edits every article before it goes live. Nothing is published straight from a tool. You can read the full process on the Editorial Policy page, and the AI and Image Policy explains how we use AI and where our images come from.
What I promise
- Every article is fact checked before it’s published.
- Every article is reviewed by a person before it goes live.
- Older articles are reviewed and updated when facts change.
- Affiliate links, ads, and sponsored content are always marked.
What I don’t do
I won’t promise you’ll get rich. I don’t sell debt payoff schemes. I’m not your financial advisor, and nothing here replaces one. Please read the Disclaimer before you act on any guide.
How Frugal Journal earns money
The site is free to read. It may earn money from display ads and affiliate links. When it does, you’ll see a clear note. Money never decides what I recommend. The Affiliate and Advertising Disclosure has the details.
